The SLIK PRO 340 DX Black compact travel tripod with 3-way pan head makes an excellent traveling companion for your point-and-shoot camera or light-weight Digital SLR. The PRO 340 DX Black is the same tripod as the SLIK PRO 340 DX, but with black finished legs instead of the traditional A.M.T metal finish.
SLIK's exclusive A.M.T. super Aluminum-Magnesium-Titanium alloy legs make the PRO 340 DX tripod rock steady, yet lighter than it looks. The A.M.T. alloy has a 40% greater strength to weight ratio than standard aluminum, making it lighter and stronger than the standard metal used in most tripods.
A tripod should be solid and easy to use, so you spend more time concentrating on your photography than you do your equipment.
The PRO 340 DX makes setting up easy with secure, speed-release leg locks (example pictured left). Padded leg wraps make the tripod more comfortable to carry. A gearless center column and 3-position, adjustable angle leg locks allow easy set-up on uneven ground or steps. The adjustable angle locks combined with the Separatable C.C. Short Column (optional accessory) allow the tripod to be lowered to just 10 inches for very low angle or macro photography in the field.
Stable all-metal head with easy-to-use quick release.
The included SH-705E all-metal 3-way pan head has over a solid pound of finely cast and machined aluminum. It uses a fast and easy to use quick-release plate to securely mount the camera on the tripod.
The PRO 340 DX head can be removed and the tripod legs have a standard 1/4-20 thread that can also accept a thread adapter to 3/8 in. Between these 2 sizes, the PRO 340 DX can mount almost any tripod head on the market today. The sturdy legs can handle up to 8.8 lbs of equipment with ease.
This tripod is mislabeled. It is the Slik Pro 340DX A.M.T model. The A.M.T. stands for the legs material — an aluminum, magnesium, titanium alloy that is very strong for its weight. The tripod is also of the Silk Pro line, not of the Able line, a mistake picked up from the Adorama website. Finally, by way of corrections, according to Slik, it handles 8.8 pounds “with ease” and has a maximum load rating of 11 pounds. See the Silk website, the American distributors section. This tripod is very light, easy to carry and well made. I would rate it to 7 pounds with ease; 9, maximum. It is a great travel tripod for most Canon and Nikon Digital SLRs, except for the two heaviest models in those lines and except when using the heavier, more expensive and longer professional telephoto lenses. It is very well finished.
